February 23, 2017: Facebook Slated to Live Stream M.L.B. Games, Instagram Launches Multi-Photo Feature, CPAC Denies DeploraBall Organizers Entry

1. FACEBOOK SLATED TO LIVE STREAM M.L.B. GAMES: In an effort to bring more live-streamed events to its platform, Facebook is reportedly in talks to live stream one Major League Baseball game per week during the upcoming season. Reuters: "Facebook has pushed to sign deals with owners of sports rights to live stream their games, going after an audience that competitor Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is also trying to capture, according to sports media consultants. For social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, live streaming sports is key to attracting people since sports is one of the few types of content that people still watch live. The companies were in advanced talks, according to one source. It was unclear which games MLB would live stream on Facebook. A representative for Facebook and MLB declined to comment. By partnering with Facebook, MLB would get access to a young audience at a massive scale, consultants said. The size of Facebook's reach was a big reason Univision Communications Inc [UVN.UL] decided to use Facebook Live to live stream Mexican soccer matches in English, said Tonia O’Connor, chief commercial officer and president of content distribution at Univision. Under that deal, Facebook will live stream 46 matches by Mexican soccer league Liga MX in 2017. Terms were not disclosed. Over the past few months, Facebook has live streamed global basketball and soccer matches and table tennis." http://reut.rs/2kLYF30

2. INSTAGRAM LAUNCHES MULTI-PHOTO FEATURE: Instagram will now let users upload as many as 10 photos or videos to one post. The update aims to give users a chance to present multiple elements of a particular experience or event at once. TechCrunch: "You can think of them as Instagram albums that collect permanent photos or videos around a theme. The feature rolls out globally on iOS and Android over the next few weeks. 'You no longer have to choose the single best photo or video from an experience you want to remember' Instagram writes. This furthers Instagram’s quest to be more than where you 'only get to see the highlights', that Systrom described as the motive behind launching Instagram Stories. Now when Instagram users go to post to the feed, they’ll see a button for selecting multiple photos. Users can then edit up to 10 photos and videos individually or with a single filter on everything, choose their order, and tag friends in each. A single caption and location, as well as likes and comments, will apply to the whole post. For now, all the imagery must be in the square format. When shared to the feed, friends will see a set of blue dots on the post to indicate it’s a carousel. They can swipe back and forth to see all the photos and videos. The first photo plus the dots will represent the carousel on a user’s profile." http://tcrn.ch/2lvA9R0

3. CPAC DENIES DEPLORABALL ORGANIZERS ENTRY: Days after disinviting former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopolous, the Conservative Political Action Conference has denied a press pass to MAGA3X, the organizers of last month's controversial inauguration party called the DeploraBall. BuzzFeed: "While MAGA3X isn’t a traditional media organizationβ€”it publishes only on Twitterβ€”the snub is the latest sign that the traditional conservative establishment is experiencing growing pains when it comes to incorporating the unruly new breed of supporter who helped push a Republican into the White House for the first time in eight years. 'It sends the wrong message to our base of supporters, many of whom were registered Democrats before, or felt alienated by a Republican Party that was too focused on the 1 percent,' MAGA3X co-founder Jeff Giesea told BuzzFeed News.CPAC was burned last week when it was revealed that Yiannopoulosβ€”a scheduled speaker at the eventβ€”made comments suggesting he condoned sexual relations with boys as young as 13 in a video interview. CPAC rescinded the invitation. Giesea’s organization, which also counts the conservative social media star Mike Cernovich as a member, still plans on throwing a 'Bull Moose Party' on Friday. The event takes its name from Teddy Roosevelt’s political faction, which split the Republican Party in the early 20th century." http://bzfd.it/2kNxlkU
