The East Village isn't known for stylish event spaces, but we found one: Mothers Studios on East 5th Street is nice enough to host a small party without much decor, and raw enough to work as a blank canvas for something more gussied-up. The main room--a smaller, more refined version of Eyebeam Atelier--has a 35-foot ceiling, 1,645 square feet of space and is attached to a small terrace and a 896-square-foot studio. The space opened as a photo studio in 2000, but has only recently started booking special events, including Carolina Herrera's launch party for her Chic fragrance (which was, in fact, chic). --Chad Kaydo
