VENUE: Chic Italian at L'Impero

Short of reserving the Delegates' Dining Room at the U.N., there is a dearth of event and fine dining options on the far east side of Midtown. L'Impero has changed that. With its sleek, modern design by Vincente Wolf, the main dining room features a smooth, shiny white ceiling, raisin-colored banquettes, aquamarine chairs and tall, elegant candle holders. An adjacent elevated room surrounded by low glass walls can be partitioned by opaque white curtains and enclosed for private events. The restaurant, which just opened last night, can seat 125 inside, and an outdoor patio can seat another 20. —Suzanne Ito
