Today the Advertising Women of New York will honor Carla Hendra from OgilvyOne at the Advertising Woman of the Year luncheon at the Hilton New York. Tomorrow, the Fragrance Foundation fetes its FiFi awards nominees with a breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and the Javits Center plays host to the International Vision Expo—one of our Top 100 Events—which will show off nearly 600 suppliers of optical products. The expo runs through Sunday. Thursday evening contemporary art devotees will flock to the preview party for the Armory Show, the International Fair of New Art, which benefits the Museum of Modern Art. Great Performances is catering the preview and floral design is by Zeze Flowers. The fair brings together works from 162 galleries and opens to the public Friday; it continues through Monday at Piers 90 and 92 of the Show Piers on the Hudson. The Syndicated Network Television Association is holding its annual Syndication Day as a prelude to the upfront season at the Grand Hyatt.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Kids Film Festival commands the institution’s Rose Cinemas through Sunday. Also on Sunday, art-loving visitors in town for the Armory Show can head out to P.S. 1, which opens its buzzed-about “Greater New York” exhibition. And ENK’s Children’s Show comes to the Javits Center, as does the Fashion Avenue Market Expo. Each fashion trade show continues through Tuesday.
Monday, the Waldorf=Astoria gets a jolt of energy as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation celebrates its 2005 inductees—including U2, the Pretenders, the O’Jays, Buddy Guy, and Percy Sledge. Tuesday, the American Advertising Federation’s Advertising Hall of Fame awards come to the Waldorf, and BAM celebrates its spring season with a gala performance of Play Without Words at the Harvey Theater and dinner at a private downtown Brooklyn location.
