1. Public Relations Society of America's Silver Anvil Awards
The Scoop: The oldest awards program in the public relations industry and arguably the most prestigious, the Silver Anvils honor work from across the country. “The Silver Anvils have been around for so long—it’s the most wellestablished award, and that makes it very important,” says Fleishman-Hillard senior vice president and senior partner Michael Rinaldo.
Behind the Scenes: Karla Voth, PRSA’s director of special events and programs, plans the event, which is usually held at the Equitable Center. In 2004, Lyn’s Café Caterers did the food, and Denbo Multimedia provided audiovisual services. The 2005 awards will be back at the Equitable Center. June 9
2. PR Week Awards
The Scoop: The most well-attended of the public relations industry awards, the PR Week awards drew 950 guests last year. Doled out by one of the industry’s top publications, the awards are given in 33 categories for work done in the past year by independent PR firms and corporate and nonprofit publicity and communications departments. The awards also honor individuals in the industry, with a young professionals award and a person of the year award.
Behind the Scenes: Awards manager Jennifer Burke produces the event. It will return to Tavern on the Green this year, with lighting and staging by Bestek, voiceovers by Don Buchwald & Associates, and hosts and hostesses from NY Offstage. The celebrity host—still to be confirmed—will be booked through Empire Entertainment. March 3.
