2010 Preview: South Florida's 5 Most Anticipated New Venues

D. Channing Muller
January 11, 2010

With the New Year come numerous new venues throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Here’s a look at five of the most anticipated openings scheduled for this year.

1. United Kingdom-based brand Soho House will open its first Florida location, Soho Beach House, in Miami Beach this fall. The private club will be located on the former site of the Sovereign Hotel and have 49 rooms, including six suites, as well as a screening room, Cecconi’s Italian restaurant, two pool areas, and a spa.

2. The JW Marriott Marquis Miami is set to open in Miami’s financial district in July 2010. The 313-room hotel will have 80,000 square feet of event space, including a 20,000-square-foot ballroom. Each of the hotel’s 32 breakout rooms will be equipped with 58-inch or 65-inch flat-screen TVs, wireless Internet, and video transmission capabilities for meetings. Additionally, there will be two entertainment floors with a Jim McLean Golf School, a 10,000-square-foot NBA-approved basketball court, and a virtual bowling alley for groups.

3. The new Aventura Arts and Cultural Center is scheduled to open this summer. Managed by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the new 14,864-square-foot facility will have a 324-seat theater with a 3,420-square-foot stage, full lighting and sound systems, and waterfront views of the Intracoastal Waterway.

4. The New World Symphony Campus in Miami Beach is expected to be completed this summer, though it will open in January 2011 for events. The 106,350-square-foot campus will have 36,570 square feet of performance space and more than 30 multipurpose function rooms. The main building will also have a 6,000-square-foot rooftop garden and additional event space in the lobby and outdoor pavilion.

5. New South Beach nightclub Pinkroom is scheduled to open in mid-January. The 4,300-square-foot club on Washington Avenue will be able to accommodate as many as 350 people for events. The club will also have two private mezzanines for 80 people each. The club's owners have said they will donate a portion of its nightly proceeds to breast cancer research.
