More than 50,000 people participate in the New York City Marathon, which draws more than one million spectators in all five boroughs. This year, past winner and four-time Olympian Meb Keflezighi will run his final marathon. Tata Consultancy Services returns as the title sponsor for the third consecutive year. In 2017, the Westminster Kennel Club made headlines when it welcomed cats into the mix for the first time. More than 3,000 canines participate in the event, which just wrapped up its 141st annual show. Events take place in Madison Square Garden and at Piers 92 and 94. Next: February 12-13, 2018

The 40-mile bicycle race on car-free streets throughout the five boroughs celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2017 with an expected turnout of more than 32,000 cyclists. TD Bank returns as the event’s title sponsor. Next: May 7, 2017
