CANADA: Canada Day's Virtual Fireworks, Calgary Stampede's Drive-Through Food Events, CN Tower's Reopening, and More

NATIONAL: This year's Canada Day fireworks display was put on virtually across the country using augmented-reality technology. Hosted on a dedicated WebAR website, the three-minute, 3D fireworks show was viewable through a mobile camera. The project was developed and managed by The T1 Agency, Current Studios, and WonderMakr.

CALGARY: While the 2020 Calgary Stampede festival has been canceled, organizers began hosting 10 days of grab-and-go food events on July 4. In compliance with COVID-19 regulations, only those in vehicles are allowed to participate in the drive-through experience, which includes a mini-donut drive-through, a pancake breakfast drive-through, and a food truck rally.

EDMONTON: After postponing this year's Taste of Edmonton to 2021, Events Edmonton has launched a fundraiser to raise money for future events. Each donation of $100 will receive one sheet of 40 tickets for the 2021 festival; donations can be made online at tasteofedm.ca. In 2019, the festival donated $100,000 to 22 local nonprofits.

MONTREAL: Palais Des Congrès de MontrĂ©al is preparing to reopen by hosting hybrid events with partners Encore and GES. All rooms at the convention center will be reconfigured to comply with Canada’s two-meter distancing measures, and a team of technicians and producers can add a variety of virtual components.

TORONTO: The CN Tower will reopen for guests on July 15; timed tickets for the observation levels go on sale starting July 1. The 553-meter-high tower will have enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, reduced overall capacity, a requirement for facemasks, floor decals to reinforce physical distancing, and more.

VANCOUVER: The CP Canadian Women's Open has been canceled for 2020. The golf tournament was originally scheduled for the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club from September 3-6; it's slated to return in 2021.
