CANADA: The NHL's New Hub Cities, Just for Laughs' Drive-In Shows, Vancouver's Virtual MusicFest, and More

NATIONAL: The National Hockey League has named Toronto and Edmonton as the two locations where the Eastern and Western teams will play out the 24-team playoff format. With substantial spikes in COVID-19 cases in the US, the NHL was prompted to add these two Canadian cities as hub locations for the upcoming season; each team will be allowed 52 people inside the secure zones, including players, executives, and other staff.

CALGARY: Calgary Municipal Land Corporation has announced a partnership with DIALOG, a local multidisciplinary design firm, and HOK, a global design, architecture, engineering, and planning firm, to lead the design and construction of the city's new Event Centre. The $550-million project will be managed by CANA Construction partnered with Mortenson Construction. It will host both sporting and entertainment events when it opens in May 2024. 

MONTREAL: Comedy festival Just for Laughs will host comedy shows at the Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre on July 24 and 25, with two shows per night at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets for each show cost $122.50 per vehicle; concessions will be available (with contactless ordering and pick-up) and restrooms will be accessible. 

TORONTO: The 2020 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, originally scheduled for November 6-15 at Exhibition Place, has been canceled due to COVID-19 health precautions. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the largest combined indoor agricultural fair and international equestrian competition in the world and is planning to return November 5-14, 2021. 

VANCOUVER: In response to the cancellation of this year's MusicFest due to COVID-19, festival organizers are hosting an online broadcast to celebrate the event on their Facebook page starting Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m. The virtual event will include contributions and live streams from various artists. Vancouver Island MusicFest has also released dates for next year's event, which will take place July 9-11, 2021.
