US: Hampton's Virtual Art Fair, Plus an Online Basketball Camp, a New Atlanta Hotel, and More

NATIONAL: The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and Five-Star Basketball will collaborate to host a three-day virtual basketball camp from Aug. 24-26. The virtual camp will be streamed via CoStar and is designed to help children ages 9-17 develop skills both on and off the court—without leaving their homes. Campers will receive exclusive NBPA kits including an NBPA mask and an NBPA x Five-Star uniform by Champion. 

ANAHEIM, CALIF.: Mindy Abel is the new deputy director of the Anaheim Convention Center. She has previously spent 26 years at Visit Anaheim, the city's official destination marketing organization. 

ATLANTA: Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced the name of its newest Atlanta property—Kimpton Sylvan Hotel—which will open in early 2021. Tristan Haas will serve as general manager. The hotel remodels a 1950s-era residential venue to create a modern design scheme with 216 rooms and suites, a private pool, and over 4,000 square feet of meetings and events space.

BLACKSBURG, VA.: The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center has revealed four redesigned conference rooms that feature the same technology developed by Virginia Tech for use in its modern-day classrooms. The meeting space offers 5,000 square feet of space with built-in security features for socially distanced and hybrid events.

NEW YORK: Hampton’s Virtual Art Fair, hosted by Christofle, will open on Sept. 2 with the Art Patron Opening Night Preview from 6 p.m. to midnight and will continue, running continuously, from Sept. 3-7. The event offers special highlights and exhibitions featuring artworks by 75 national and international galleries with 85 booth displays. HVAF is presenting the works by more than 300 respected artists with over 1,300 pieces, totaling $100 million in art for immediate acquisition. Through 3D renderings, artworks will be displayed in high-resolution detail and will be available for purchase with a "buy now" option.
