CANADA: A Twilight Picnic Experience, Hybrid Music Festival, Wine Tasting Event, and More

NATIONAL: Bruce MacMillan has been announced as the Professional Convention Management Agency’s new chief operating officer. Bruce previously served as PCMA’s chief marketing officer and brings over 30 years of experience to his new position.

Vancouver-based company Modern Day Wife is hosting the “Think Outside the Box” webinar series on Sept. 24, featuring speakers such as fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff, actress and humanitarian Daphne Wayans, HGTV host Sangita Patel, and more. In partnership with Project YOU, the webinar will include a “Short Term Goals, Long Term Goals” workshop designed to motivate and inspire attendees to recover from setbacks and overcome challenges while starting a new career, launching a new business, or expanding an existing one. A portion of the proceeds will go to the charity Mamas For Mamas Vancouver.

EDMONTON: University of Alberta Botanic Garden is offering a Twilight Picnic Experience now through Oct. 11. The experience for two will include a gourmet picnic box filled with local foods, edible herbs and flowers grown at the garden, exclusive admission, and optional add-ons for special occasions.

MONTREAL: The Mutek Festival will begin its 21st edition on Sept. 8 at Cinquième salle de la Place des Arts in celebration of electronic music and the digital arts. The festival will feature hybrid programming with three virtual stages, over 60 performances, and an interactive gallery equipped with virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and video and audio artworks.

ONTARIO: WineOh! will be hosting a wine tasting event on Sept. 19 at the Alexander Henry Ship Museum docked at Thunder Bay. The tasting will feature eight Ontario wine varieties and cheeses, a tour of the museum, and live music accompaniment. In light of the pandemic, tour groups will be limited to 10 participants. 

VANCOUVER: Beaumont Studios is showing a mystery movie every Thursday night until the end of September. Tickets are $15 and include headphones and popcorn. Guests are encouraged to view the studio’s social media for hints on what the mystery movie will be. Pre-show music and Bingo for the chance to win prizes will begin at 8:00 p.m., and the movie will start at 8:30 p.m.
