CALGARY: Luminous Voices hosted the city's first-ever car choir event on Oct. 4 in the parking lot of Max Bell Arena. The free, drive-in style event included 16 performers from Calgary’s professional Chamber Choir, and allowed attendees to tune in via a designated FM station on their radios.
MONTREAL: Festival du Nouveau Cinema has canceled all in-theater screenings and announced its full lineup. The 49th annual FNC film festival is set to run virtually Oct. 7-31. Highlights include Zheng Lu Xinyuan’s The Cloud in Her Room, Olivier Godin’s There Are No False Undertakings, Abel Ferrara’s Siberia, and many more. Tickets are available now.
OTTAWA: The Skate Canada International Grand Prix will be held without fans Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. Nam Nguyen and ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will headline the event. The International Skating Union has also announced that this year's final, originally scheduled for Dec. 10-13 in Beijing, has been postponed, with no new date set for the competition.
TORONTO: Casa Loma's annual Legends of Horror attraction has been canceled due to Toronto's second wave of COVID-19 cases. The fifth edition of Liberty Entertainment Group's Halloween installation was originally scheduled to open on Oct. 2 with safety measures in place. All tickets sold will be refunded.
Nuit Blanche Toronto is hosting a 10-day virtual event, which began this past Saturday and will run until Oct. 12. Organizers have shifted the free, one-night art celebration into five online streams. This is Toronto's 15th annual installment; it includes talks, podcasts, livestreams, and artworks in augmented and virtual reality. There's also a 12-hour livestream of screen-based artworks, as well as soundscapes provided by several DJs. Participants also have access to the 14-year Nuit Blanche Toronto archive of more than 1,600 art projects and new content from alumni artists and curators.
