NATIONAL: Self-service ticket and tech platform Eventbrite will host its first-ever global summit, RECONVENE, on May 20-21. Designed to help independent event creators prepare for the return of in-person gatherings, the free summit will feature speakers like Priya Parker, NIVA co-founder Daya Frank and a variety of other event creators, artists, authors, producers and entrepreneurs.
ILEA International has partnered with the inaugural Event Tech Live USA and Canada, which takes place June 8-10 with over 100 virtual sessions, workshops and roundtables. Through the partnership, the association will spread show news to its more than 45 branches throughout the world.
MONTREAL: Organizers hope to host the Montreal Marathon in person from Sept. 25-26. This year will mark the 30th edition of the run, which has new management, Événements GPCQM, and a new title sponsor, Quebec insurance company Beneva.
TORONTO: The city of Toronto has canceled all major in-person events for the second straight summer. Affected gatherings include the Canadian National Exhibition, Taste of Danforth, Bloor West StreetFest, Toronto Chinatown Festival and more. City officials said they wanted to give event organizers as much advance notice as possible, in the hopes that some events can take place virtually.
VANCOUVER: Tickets are now on sale for Wings and Wizards, a 7,000-square-foot, family-friendly exhibit opening at BC Place on June 8. The immersive, interactive event—produced by nonprofit SHINE Experiences with Go2 Productions, Innovation Lighting and Spectra Event Group—merges world-building, art, technology and design for a self-guided, touch-free experience.
