NATIONAL: MeetingPlay has received a $75 million investment from Sunstone Partners, which will help the technology firm continue to grow and develop innovative products, as well as expand its delivery capabilities and enhance its go-to-market strategies. Founded in 2012, MeetingPlay offers a variety of tech-forward tools for hybrid, virtual and in-person events of all types.
EDMONTON: Edmonton is now the first, and currently the only, Canadian destination to have received the Destination GBAC STAR Accreditation, which ensures that participating hotels, venues and transportation agencies have all had their cleaning, sanitization and outbreak prevention programs validated by the independent council.
TORONTO: The Scotiabank Arena will transform into a mass vaccination site on June 27. A one-day event, called Our Winning Shot, aims to get 10,000 people in and vaccinated by the end of the day. The City of Toronto and Team Toronto vaccination partners have teamed up with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and Scotiabank for the clinic, which will be led by the University Health Network and Michael Garron Hospital.
VANCOUVER: Vancouver Pride Society is hosting a hybrid Pride festival this summer, running from July 3 to Aug. 3. Instead of one large experience, there will be more than 60 events, both live and virtual. There will be no parade this year, but a digital broadcast can be streamed in addition to the other adapted events.
WASKESIU, SASKATCHEWAN: The Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada recently announced an eight-year agreement with Elk Ridge Resort to host The Elk Ridge Open in Waskesiu. The next event will take place Sept. 6, and will be restricted to Canada-based golfers due to COVID-19 restrictions.
