US: A New Name for the Sands Expo, Bill Hansen Catering’s Merger, Lotte Hotels’ New CEO and More

NATIONAL: Lotte Hotels Corporation has announced that Jim Petrus will serve as CEO of Lotte Hotels and Resorts Americas, effective immediately. Petrus has more than 30 years of industry experience, and his leadership will help build the South Korean brand’s presence in the Americas. The global brand first entered the North American market in 2015 with its New York location.

ATLANTA: Mason Dixie foods, a BIPOC- and LGBTQ+-owned baked goods brand, is hosting a food tour kicking off in Atlanta from July 24-25. The Breakfast For Good tour aims to support small businesses struggling to come out of the pandemic. Mason Dixie is partnering with two local ice cream shops and will be handing out free breakfast sandwiches.

LAS VEGAS: The Venetian Resort announced that its 2.25 million-square-foot convention center will be undergoing several updates, including new name changes. As of Sept. 2, the Sands Expo will now be called the Venetian Expo, while the Venetian Congress Center will become the Venetian Convention Center. The resort has also begun booking its newest meeting room, the 8,000-square-foot Stella Studio, and has launched a new tool geared towards planning virtual meetings.

LOS ANGELES: The highly anticipated new location of Girl & the Goat opened in downtown Los Angeles on July 15. Owned by James Beard award-winning chef Stephanie Izard, the new restaurant serves family-style dishes, combing staples from its Chicago location as well as new dishes unique to California. The 200-seat restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows, light wood floors and tons of greenery.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: Bill Hansen Catering & Event Production has merged with Eten Catering, a full-service catering and event company also based in South Florida. The acquisition will expand Bill Hansen Catering’s presence to a larger market, specifically for large-scale yacht events in South Florida; the two brands will collaborate from Hansen’s 8,000-square-foot commissary kitchen in Opa Locka, Fla., while Eten Catering will continue to operate as its own entity.
