CANADA: Updates on the Fantasia International Film Festival and Packwood Grand, a New Entertainment Venue in Toronto and More

NATIONAL: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is hosting an online symposium and award luncheon, accessible virtually from anywhere in the world. The event highlighting esteemed breast cancer research experts will take place Oct. 14. Tickets and sponsorships are now available for purchase.

CALGARY: Horse-racing event Packwood Grand is coming back to Calgary for the seventh year at the Century Downs Racetrack on Aug. 7. This luxury social and lifestyle event includes horse racing, fashion, and food and beverages. The red carpet officially opens at noon on the day of the event, and the horse racing starts at 1:20 p.m. with the final race of the day at 5 p.m.

FORT SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA: Over 30 vendors are confirmed for the Halloween Market at Pioneer House on Oct. 30. The market will last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free. In addition to the vendors and their handmade products, the market also offers prizes, movie tickets and gift cards.

MONTREAL: The 25th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival will run from Aug. 5-25 as a mostly virtual event, with select films screening in Montreal. In addition to the titles for this year’s Axis animation program, the festival will honor director and visual effects master Phil Tippett with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his original vision and contributions. 

TORONTO: OverActive Media, which owns numerous Esports franchises, is expected to break ground on a new entertainment facility on the Exhibition grounds early next year. The 7,200-seat venue, slated to open in 2025, will be privately financed and located just to the west of the Stanley Barracks.
