CALGARY: Images of Calgary's new arena were recently released, with the city soliciting public feedback on the $608 million project. The project has already been approved by the city council and is being taken on by International Design Firm HOK and local firm Dialog. The new arena is expected to seat 18,300 people and include 48 suites.

MONTREAL: The Marché Asiatique de Montréal, an Asian night market in Chinatown, kicks off Aug. 12 and will run for eight weeks until Oct. 3. The neighborhood will feature street food from various vendors as well as a mix of activations and installations. The gathering is organized by Marché de Nuit and La Pépinière.

TORONTO: Honey Jam, an annual showcase for emerging female musical artists, will be livestreamed from El Mocambo on Aug. 12. Initially founded in 1995 as an extension of hip-hop magazine Mic Check, the event has now evolved into a nonprofit mentorship program that fosters female talent through workshops and networking.

VANCOUVER: The 33rd annual Vancouver Queer Film Fest (VQFF) will take place mostly virtually this year from Aug. 12-22. VQFF is one of the largest queer arts events in Western Canada, and it will be presented by Out on Screen with a video-on-demand format. There will also be a variety of small in-person events, including workshops, artist Q&As and panels.

WINNIPEG: The Burt Block Party concert series will take place over two weekends, Aug. 20-21 and Aug. 27-28, outside the Burton Cummings Theatre. Open only to fully vaccinated guests, the events will feature performances from The Sheepdogs, Said the Whale, 54-40 and other Canadian rock bands. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for the series, which will also feature food and drink offerings.
