CANADA: Le Burger Week Details, Vancouver’s Latin American Festivals, Calgary’s Largest Halloween Event and More

NATIONAL: This year, Canada’s Le Burger Week will expand to a two-week event, running from Sept. 1-14 at more than 1,000 participating restaurants across Canada. Launched in Montreal a decade ago, the annual event expanded to Quebec City, Vancouver, Ottowa, Edmonton and other Canadian cities in 2017. A portion of every burger sold at participating restaurants will be donated to Anorexia and Bulimia QuĂ©bec and United Way Canada.

Comic convention producer Fan Expo HQ has announced that six of Wizard World’s largest events will be joining its portfolio. Wizard World’s events in Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Portland, St. Louis and Cleveland will be rebranded as Fan Expo events in 2022; in total, Fan Expo will now operate 17 shows in North America, making it the largest producer of fan conventions in the world. Highlights of the company’s portfolio include Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, MegaCon in Orlando, Calgary Comics & Entertainment Expo Fan Expo, Dallas Fan Festival and more.

CALGARY: Calgary’s largest Halloween event, Screamfest, is returning this fall. Attendees will journey through six different haunted houses, ranging from a clown-themed space to the Bates Motel; there will also be carnival games, ax-throwing, food trucks, a beer lounge and more. The event kicks off Oct. 8 and runs on weekend nights until Halloween at the Stampede Park Grandstand.

EDMONTON: The Winter in Summer Music Festival runs today through Aug. 14 at the Edmonton Ski Club. Performers include Whale & The Wolf and El Niven and the Alibi; shows have limited seating capacity and cashless ordering, and tickets cost $35 per day. A second lineup of performers will return from Sept. 17-18.

VANCOUVER: Two Latin American cultural events are coming to Vancouver. The Carnaval del Sol festival kicks off today and runs through Aug. 15; the outdoor, family-friendly festival features live performances, a Latinx Pride Day for the LGBTQ community, morning Zumba classes and more. Meanwhile, The Latin American Experience will take place Aug. 20-29 with a series of limited-capacity live events and hybrid workshops at the Vancouver Playhouse and Performance Works, along with a jazz concert and a stand-up comedy show.
