NATIONAL: The 41st annual Terry Fox Run for cancer research will take place Sept. 19. Canadians from across the country are invited to join virtually from their own neighborhoods and will have access to new tools and technology like an updated website with downloadable content and interactive timelines, plus a mobile fundraising app, personalized QR codes, text-to-donate functionality and more.
EDMONTON: Open Streets will take place in downtown Edmonton on Sept. 18. The event, hosted by local nonprofit Paths for People, will feature bike parades, walking tours, design workshops, games and more. The gathering will be a scaled-down version of the 2019 Open Streets event, which saw some 20,000 patrons.
TORONTO: The Spooktacular Light Show, a 2-kilometer drive-thru Halloween event, runs from Sept. 30 to Nov. 7 in both Mississauga and Markham. Produced by the team behind Journey Into Enchantment, the experience will feature interactive displays, a pumpkin-filled tunnel, over 1 million lights, a food and beverage truck, and more. Proceeds support Toronto SickKids and Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer.
VANCOUVER: The 15th Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival takes place from Sept. 10-19, with films accessible to viewers across Canada from their homes. The event, which looks to promote cultural exchange between Canada and Taiwan, is hosted by the Vancouver Taiwanese Film Society and sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture R.O.C., Overseas Community Affairs Council and Vancouver’s Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.
WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA: TEDxWhistler will return on Sept. 12 as a virtual livestream with 10 speakers exploring the theme of “Legacy: Life, Living and How We Can All Leave Our Mark.” It will be broadcast from the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, and feature a mix of prerecorded talks along with live hosting and performances.
