CANADA: POP Montreal’s 20th Edition, a Haunted Corn Maze, a Cabaret with Indigenous Artists and More

NATIONAL: The Events Industry Council has officially launched the first phase of its Equity Acceleration Plan, which includes a survey to determine the current state of diversity, equity and inclusion across the event industry. The results will inform the development of tools, resources and recommendations in the subsequent phases of the plan, aiming to provide a framework for addressing discrimination and systemic racism in the industry. The survey is available here until Oct. 15.

Event software company Bizzabo has hired five new executives, bringing a total of 70-plus years of experience to the team. They are: Devin Cleary, vice president of global events; Sarah North, director of event experiences; Megan Murphy, vice president of account management; Tim Bull, vice president of sales in the EMEA; and Elijah Clark-Ginsberg, product manager.

ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA: Maan Farms is opening its annual haunted corn maze on Sept. 24. The popular Halloween attraction has a “twisted carnival” theme this year, complete with creepy clowns from the 1800s, along with a new attraction billed as “the scariest forest in Canada.” Tickets must be purchased in advance in groups of four, five or six.

MONTREAL: The 20th edition of POP Montreal kicked off Sept. 22 and runs through Sept. 26. The hybrid festival includes both online and in-person performances, plus an indie market for arts and crafts, kids-focused events like a puppet-building workshop, documentary film screenings, art exhibitions and live performances.

VANCOUVER: The third annual Transform Cabaret Festival takes place Sept. 23 to Oct. 2. Focused on Indigenous artists, the event features both online events as well as gatherings at the Cultch, with opening and closing shows presented by Queer Based Media.
