NATIONAL: Omni Hotels and Resorts has announced two senior leadership promotions. Brent Lessing, who has been with Omni since 2019, has been appointed chief information and digital officer, and Natalie White, who is new to Omni, has been appointed to vice president of CRM and loyalty. Omni Hotels & Resorts operates more than 50 luxury hotels and resorts across North America.
CALGARY: The Dark Arts, a pop-up art exhibit and cocktail lounge located inside The GRAND Theatre, has extended its stay in the city. The space, which features creative cocktails, a shareable menu and works by local artists, originally opened in July and is expected to run through the end of the year. It’s open weekly from Wednesday to Saturday.
Calgary’s TELUS Spark Science Centre has launched a new virtual reality experience, allowing visitors to safely soar to new heights without leaving the city. Birdly, the museum's first-ever full-body virtual reality exhibit, opened Oct. 21 with a “Jurassic Flight” experience.
MONTREAL: Drag legend Barbada de Barbades will host Halloween Drag Brunch at Time Out Market on Oct. 31. The event will also feature other top queens and entertainment, along with a variety of food prepared by the Time Out chefs and a costume contest. Prizes include a $50 gift card from Time Out and a tote bag. Tickets are available for purchase in groups of two to eight people.
VANCOUVER: The annual shortlist for the City of Vancouver Book Award was announced last week, with six books making the list. The award wasn’t given out in 2020, so this year’s event will honor two authors and their books. Winners will be announced at a hybrid event on Nov. 20, and each will receive a $3,000 cash prize.
