NATIONAL: The 2022 editions of the Montreal and Toronto auto shows have both been canceled due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The Montreal International Auto Show is usually held in January, with Toronto’s Canadian International Auto Show in February. The Toronto event is the largest auto show in Canada, and both shows held successful events in 2020. While both tried to host virtual events in 2021, not enough automakers were willing to participate to make them worthwhile.
The IMEX Group will extend its partnership with global experiential marketing and logistics partner GES into 2026, building on a decade-long collaboration. The two companies together produced IMEX America 2021 last month in Las Vegas, which attracted over 8,600 participants. The 2022 editions of IMEX will take place in Frankfurt from April 26-28 and Las Vegas from Oct. 11-13.
Maritz, a 127-year-old global professional services company, has announced that Steve Maritz will move into an executive chairman role. This will follow Maritz’s nearly 25 years of leading the company as CEO and chairman. David Peckinpaugh, current president of Maritz Global Events, will take over day-to-day management of Maritz Holdings as president and CEO effective Jan. 1.
VANCOUVER: The seventh annual Harvest Haus will take over the PNE Forum from Feb. 11-12. The weekend will feature food, live entertainment, singalongs and beer, and it will have a more traditional Bavarian all-seated table format in line with COVID-19 safety guidelines. Each seating is hosted by the “Bürgermeister,’’ who will lead guests through a stein session to celebrate the harvest. Over 24 international and local brewers, vintners and distillers will be on-site, and visitors can enjoy over 30 European and craft biers, wines and spirits.
WHITEHORSE, YUKON: Hyatt Place Whitehorse, which is expected to open in early 2024, will mark the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Canada's Yukon Territory. The 100-room hotel will be located in downtown Whitehorse, the capital city of Canada's Yukon Territory. The hotel’s location is steps away from shops, offices, restaurants, coffee shops, tourist attractions and the Yukon River waterfront.
