BURNABY, BC.: About 30 minutes outside of Vancouver, at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Center, the Nikkei Auxiliary volunteer group is hosting a Spring Bazaar on May 14 in honor of Asian Heritage Month in May. From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., guests can shop from local vendors selling Japanese dishware, home decor, and dolls, plus a variety of Asian foods, flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Funds raised will go toward the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Center and its programming promoting Japanese culture. For people looking to become a vendor, one table costs $35 and two cost $55.
ONTARIO: Artists interested in participating in Paint Ontario, a show and sale representing talented local painters, can submit their works online June 1-12. By June 20, artists will be notified if they've been accepted into the event, which will be held at the Lambton Heritage Museum in Grand Bend Sept. 2-25. TORONTO: Doors Open Toronto—an annual event that invites the public to explore the city's buildings of architectural, historical, cultural, and social significance—takes place May 28-29. The theme of this year's two-day event will be "Renewal," which aims to draw attention to social, cultural, and environmental inequity, injustice, and imbalance. During Doors Open Toronto 2022, guests will be able to explore more than 100 sites, including rare access to the Mayor's Office, Council Chambers, Podium Green Roof, and the Hall of Memory. Attendees can also visit speaking events, go on guided walking tours, attend film viewings, and more.
VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Wine Festival returns to the city May 16-22 and features a lineup of engaging, boozy events, including a California-themed beach party, "Grapes Unknown" wine tasting, Sunday brunch, and more. Over the course of the week-long event, more than 1,500 wines will be featured from 15-plus countries around the world. Tickets for each event are available on the festival's website, and prices vary depending on the programming.
