GLOBAL: Aura Blockchain Consortium has announced Mercedes-Benz as its newest and fifth founding member, making the brand the only car maker to join as a founding member (the other four are fashion brands). The Aura SaaS is the first blockchain-based platform designed specifically for luxury brands to help them with day-to-day operations, supply chain, customer marketing, manufacturing, sustainability, legal, and more. By joining the platform, Mercedes-Benz will be provided with ready-to-use, cutting-edge blockchain and NFT technology that will raise the customer experience to the next level and further enhance the digital luxury industry.
NATIONAL: Odd Burger, one of the world’s first publicly traded vegan fast-food chains, will open 36 new locations throughout Alberta and British Colombia before 2029. After opening in Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, and other spots across Western Canada, the chain will boast 50 locations in Canada. On Odd Burger's menu, customers will find vegan versions of their favorite fast food options, including breakfast sandwiches, burgers, chicken sandwiches—the chain playfully calls its version the "chickUN" sandwich—plus onion rings, milkshakes, salads, and more.
BANFF: Corus and the Banff World Media Festival have announced the recipients of this year’s Corus Apprentice Program: Young Adult Scripted, and they include Darren Anthony, Jadiel Dowlin Lewis, Maxine Grossman, Taylor Hopkins, and Sarah Kelley. The five writers were selected from more than 130 submissions this year, which has programming seeking out aspiring writers from underrepresented communities interested in young adult live-action TV scripting. The 2022 recipients will receive a premium pass to BANFF 2022, a festival packed with panels, keynotes, masterclasses, and networking opportunities at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel June 12-15. They will also have the opportunity to benefit from a two-week paid internship placement.
TORONTO: Thompson Landry Gallery in Toronto is hosting an exhibition, ĂŽLES EN VUE, to present 30 new works from Montreal-based artist Carol Bernier. Her art work will be on display May 19-June 12, and aims to find a language that transcends barriers without restrictions or compromises. Bernier will also be hosting a meet-and-greet with attendees on May 21 from noon-4 p.m.
VANCOUVER: The Cup, formerly known as The Deighton Cup, will be held at the Hastings Racecourse on July 23. Known for being the city's best-dressed horse race, the event makes its return after a two-year hiatus. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in the Style Stakes style competition, listen to live music, admire local art, and sip on cocktails while watching and betting on eight different horse races. Other highlights? The best-dressed guest will win a cash prize of $10,000 and get the opportunity to judge 2023's competition, plus chef Alessandro Vianello will host a Risotto Party Pop-Up.
