CANADA: National Indigenous Peoples' Day, Canada Day's Pro-Athlete Experience, a Relief Fund for Canadian Event Venues, and More

BANFF: On June 21, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples' Day with a specially curated group of performances, workshops, and a virtual marketplace June 21-26. Themed online and in-person, free events will nod to Indigenous peoples' culture and heritage while honoring the unique arts and culture of Treaty 7, an agreement between the Crown and First Nation governments in what is today southern Alberta. MISSISSAUGA: The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Canada (FCA Sports) has partnered with Domino’s Pizza to launch the Pro-Athlete Experience at the Canada Day Together event that will be held at Friendship Community Park on July 1 from 2-7 p.m. Former NFL athlete and Grey Cup champion Swayze Waters will join the FCA Sports staff for this event, alongside Canadian Olympian Sarah Chaudhery, former pro-hockey player Ryan Mulder, and former pro-rugby player Sean-Michael Stephen. TORONTO: In partnership with SOCAN, the Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) has launched AID: #ForTheLoveOfLIVE. The program is a relief initiative in support of independently owned and operated live music venues in Canada that have a capacity of 500 or less and have experienced hardships during the pandemic. A total of $30,000 will be given to eligible venues. Venue representatives are invited to apply for aid now through July 13 and will be selected by a lottery between July 14 and Aug. 1. A total of 30 winners will be announced on Aug. 4, and each will receive $1,000.

After a two-year hiatus, Right To Play Canada will host the 2022 Heroes Gala on June 22. The evening of fundraising, awareness, and play will combine elements of business, sport, philanthropy, and entertainment to protect, educate, and empower children across 15 countries and over 70 indigenous communities in Canada to rise above adversity. Taking place at the Constitution Hall at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Right To Play Canada will welcome featured guests Larry Tenenbaum, Blake Hutcheson, Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser, Ciara Lewis, and Pascal Siakam.
