BANFF: The Fairmont Banff Springs has announced Banffchella, a colorful festival celebrating summer and art. An installation by Vancouver-based artists Rachel Rivera and Claire Ouchi of the WKNDRS will be featured, and the hotel’s pool deck and spa got a makeover to fit in with the colorful theme. CALGARY: Granary Road’s first-ever Pickle Palooza takes place July 30-31 at the Active Learning Park & Farmer’s Market. On-site vendors will offer a variety of sweet and savory pickles, and the guest that finds the hidden pickle will win a prize. For guests aged 18-plus, there will also be a pickle-eating and brine contest. General admission is $15.95 for guests over the age of three.
TORONTO: ApéroChic is hosting a Bastille Day celebration at the Cabana Pool Bar on July 14. To nod to the national French holiday, guests are asked to dress in red, white, and blue. They can enjoy a cocktail hour and dance as top DJs mix famed French music. The dress code is formal—no swimming will be allowed—and patrons over the age of 19 can buy tickets via Eventbrite. In case of rain, the event will be moved indoors to the adjacent Cabana Pool Bar: Noir Room.
SummerWorks Performance Festival 2022 returns for its 32nd edition Aug. 4-14. The 11-day festival will take place both in-person and online while aiming to foster new connections among attendees and invite audiences to reimagine their relationship with public space through art. Programming will include theater, dance, music, and live art, plus a collaborative project by Canadian artist duo Mia + Eric and UK team Action Hero. There will also be three community gatherings at various public spaces around Toronto, including an opening and closing night meal and celebration, as well as a mid-festival Q&A session with Elder Dr. Duke Redbird. VANCOUVER: The Evo Summer Cinema Series at Stanley Park is showing movies at dusk every Tuesday now through Aug. 23. From 8-11 p.m. at Ceperley Meadows near Second Beach, guests can gather for free and view family favorite films, including Zoolander, Jurassic Park, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and so many more. Lawn seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, but VIP seating can be reserved online via Eventbrite.
