US: Marriott's New HQ Campus, Caesars Palace Completes Renovation, Conrad New York Midtown Names New Director of Operations, and More

BETHESDA, MD.: After six years of planning, design, and construction, Marriott International has opened its global headquarters in downtown Bethesda. The 21-story, 785,000-square-foot, LEEDv4 Gold-certified building is the new workplace for corporate associates. Marriott’s new HQ campus, which includes the new Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ hotel next door, is designed to enable connectivity, collaboration, growth, ideation, and well-being through diverse, dynamic spaces and state-of-the-art technology. The new building will also serve as a global hub for Marriott’s research and development operation.

LAS VEGAS: Caesars Palace announced the completion of a multimillion-dollar renovation of its main entrance, iconic casino dome, and porte-cochère. The redesigned space includes a dramatic entryway with a coffered ceiling, refreshed gaming areas, and the new Galleria Bar in the hotel lobby. The property's legendary, crystal-cloaked casino dome now boasts a new, larger crystal chandelier that weighs approximately 3,200 pounds and comprises12,000 individual crystals.

MIRAMAR BEACH, FLA.: Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort recently announced the appointment of Matthew Krueger to executive chef of Hotel Effie. He has assumed the position immediately, helming the property's signature restaurant Ovide—the only Florida restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef Hugh Acheson, who is responsible for curating the hotel’s culinary concepts based on southern cuisine and coastal flavors. As executive chef, Krueger—a 15-year veteran of the hospitality industry—will collaborate with Acheson to oversee all aspects of food and beverage operations across the hotel’s four restaurant outlets and in-room dining.

NEW YORK: David Tortora has been named the director of operations at the Conrad New York Midtown, a 562-room luxury hotel located in the heart of Manhattan. Tortora will oversee all operational departments at the hotel, including guest relations, food and beverage, housekeeping, front office, security, and engineering. Prior to joining the Conrad New York Midtown, Tortora was with the Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, for more than five years, most recently serving as director of rooms.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF.: The Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala benefiting nonprofit organization Fuck Cancer will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Santa Monica Barker Hangar. Rachel Zoe will be honored with the Vanguard Award at the event, while Julie Plec is set to receive the Barbara Berlanti Hero Award, and Jennifer Salke will be presented with the Humanitarian Award. The gala will include performances by musical guests Tori Kelly, En Vogue, and The Scarlet Opera.
