NATIONAL: Air Canada announced the expansion of its in-flight entertainment with the addition of exclusive Apple TV+ original programming beginning Aug. 1. It is the second airline globally to offer Apple TV+ original programming onboard. Travelers can now enjoy the platform's popular series like Ted Lasso, Bad Sisters, and Severance.
HALIFAX: On Oct. 1, the marketing levy on registered tourism accommodations in the Halifax Regional Municipality will increase by 1%. While tourism accommodations have been expecting the levy increase since 2022, the effective date has only been announced recently. This has left some concerned about prebookings, where funds have been charged and collected. Discover Halifax wants to mitigate the financial burden on those businesses caught in the timing challenge related to the increased levy, and is introducing a one-time grant program to help subsidize the 1% increase. MONTREAL: The Palais des congrès de Montréal—working in collaboration with the Alliance de l'industrie touristique du Québec as part of its mandate from the Ministère du Tourisme du Québec to promote the province under the Bonjour Québec brand—has rolled out a brand-new networking space with a St. Lawrence theme. Paying homage to one of the province's main tourist icons, the new space offers a unique immersive experience for Palais visitors, who will be able to relax, chat, and network in the shadow of a majestic humpback whale measuring nearly 10 metres long and floating in a soothing aquatic setting.
TORONTO: New luxury event series The Best Of will travel to Toronto Sept. 5-6 at the Canadian Film Centre. The inaugural event in the series, The Best of California, will bring some of California’s top talent to Canada. Attendees can expect an all-star Michelin and Grammy Award-winning lineup from California, bringing the best of the Golden State to Toronto for a singular dining and entertainment experience to benefit Zero Foodprint, winner of the James Beard Humanitarian Award.
Toronto-based event tech company EventMobi has acquired virtual event platform Run The World to help the latter’s clients take advantage of the return to in-person events. This move also underscores EventMobi’s commitment to virtual events as a way to increase reach, tap into new revenue streams, engage audiences year-round, and build event communities.
