Joshua A. Novick, 36, works in New York City, as vice president, business development, North America at London & Partners. As a 2019 40 Under 40 honoree, Novick discusses his passion for the events industry.

What I do: I spend my days telling people (specifically meeting and incentive planners, but really, anyone that will listen) about one of—if not the—greatest cities in the world, London. Whether discussing the city’s rich cultural heritage that embraces not only its history, but also its diverse and modern society to its culture of innovation in the fields of science and technology, there is always something that piques someone’s interest and spurs conversation. Out of all this talk and storytelling, hopefully my clients are encouraged and excited to choose London for their next meeting or incentive.
How I got here: After a brief, yet eye-opening stint in food & beverage, my thirst for travel guided me to the tourism and hospitality industry. After receiving a graduate business degree in hospitality and tourism management, I began my career at a small luxury tour operator and incentive house that specialized in Europe. From there, I made my way to London & Partners, London’s official convention bureau, where I grew from business development executive to business development manager and finally, now, vice president.
Greatest career accomplishment: I’m most proud of being able to help one of the world’s leading technology companies to research and choose London for their first ever international, worldwide developers conferences. The process required buyouts (not as common in London) and cooperation across global brands and independent hotels. Lastly, to really mix things up, a steam punk band closed the event… truly an event to remember!
Impressive stats: To date, my team and I have reached over 180 percent of our annual target.
What I am working on: This year, the convention bureau is working on some exciting cross-city collaborations. It’s great to see what other cities have to offer and the potential for joined up campaigns.
What I do outside of work: Outside of work, though work related, I’m on the board of directors for the Greater New York Chapter of MPI. I’ve been a board member for 5 years and being part of the organization has proved invaluable to me both personally and professionally. While I love my industry, I do have other interests! I may have left my culinary career in the past, but I’m an avid cook and love to travel near and far (I’ve been to all 7 continents). I’m also the Chair of the Junior Board of Oliver Scholars, an NYC based non-profit that provides access to education for underserved Black and Latino youth in the city.
