Megan Carlson, 32, works in Denver as national event planning manager at Hyatt. As a 2017 40 Under 40 honoree, Carlson discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: I am a traveling event planning manager for Hyatt, dedicated to key sales organizations loyal to the Hyatt brand. In my position, I travel from hotel to hotel with these key groups to ensure consistency of quality and service during their programs, as well as increased ease of doing business with Hyatt. I am knowledgeable of each hotel’s culture and become an extension of their team to provide a seamless personalized planning and on-site experience.
How I got here: I have been with Hyatt for more than nine years, working in the events department. I grew into my current role, starting out as an event concierge and administrative assistant, growing into more leadership roles as an event sales manager and event planning manager. I was tapped for feedback on the unique idea of a national event planning manager and had a large role in creating this position.
My greatest career accomplishment: I have been most proud watching the national event planning manager program grow with the addition of a second national event planning manager in 2016, in addition to overwhelming positive guest feedback. Our client feedback, loyalty and repeat business is a measurement of our team’s success.
Impressive stats: I received 100 percent HySat scores in the sections of Service from Your Convention Services Manager and Event Phase. HySat is Hyatt’s customer satisfaction survey.
What I’m working on: We are focused on further expansion of the national event planning manager program. As the demand from our key accounts grows, we look forward to adding more managers in due time.
What I do outside of work: I enjoy spending time with my husband in our lovely home in Denver, trying new restaurants with friends and traveling to new places.
