Wendi Wang, CMP, 32, works in Dublin, California, as Vice President of marketing events at CallidusCloud. As a 2017 40 Under 40 honoree, Wang discusses her passion for the events industry.
What I do: I oversee and manage CallidusCloud’s global event strategy, processes and execution.
How I got here: I inherited my love of party planning from my mother who loved to plan parties and gatherings for friends and family. While studying at Cal Poly Pomona, I interned at a production company in Los Angeles that produced fashion shows and was immediately hooked. I love the excitement of being backstage and the adrenaline rush of the moment. I knew at that moment where I wanted to take my career. From there, I worked at a wide range of marketing agencies producing events in the fashion, automotive and tech industries.
My greatest career accomplishment: My greatest career accomplishment thus far has been upleveling the CallidusCloud C3 user conference experience. By shifting C3 from a product-centric to a customer-centric event, we were able to increase number of attendance by 40 percent year over year and have had an over 95 percent show rate each year.
A specific improvement I’ve made: Since joining CallidusCloud, I have implemented the Events Playbook, which is filled with templates and best practices to help standardize and improve our internal processes. Also, we’ve added the usage of Cvent, a useful event management software, to automate and streamline the registration process.
What I’m working on: My goal this year is to find ways to interact with our prospects and customers in new and exciting ways. We’ll be experimenting with more intimate and interactive events like meetups and customer networking events.
What I do outside of work: I love to travel with my husband and friends to places we’ve never been and taste what each destination has to offer. On the weekends, I love taking my two fur kids on walks and trying out new restaurants in the Bay Area.
