June 26, 2015: Dalai Lama to Visit Glastonbury Festival, Univision Drops Miss USA Pageant Over Trump’s Comments on Immigration, Rogue Model Makes Political Protest at Men’s Show

1. DALAI LAMA TO VISIT GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL: The Glastonbury Festival is making news for a nonmusical headliner: the Dalai Lama will visit the sold-out music festival this weekend. The New York Times: “The holy leader would visit the festival to speak on Sunday as part of a brief tour of the United Kingdom taking place in the lead up to his 80th birthday, in July. According to a statement, the Dalai Lama will share his ‘message of compassion, nonviolence and the oneness of humanity’ in a speech at the festival’s Green Fields, a verdant playground area that overlooks the festival’s main stages.” http://nyti.ms/1Cyi8lJ

2. UNIVISION DROPS MISS USA PAGEANT OVER TRUMP’S COMMENTS ON IMMIGRATION: Following Donald Trump’s “insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants" as part of his presidential campaign, Univision said it would cancel its Spanish-language coverage of the Miss USA Pageant and end its business relationship with the show’s producer, the Miss Universe Organization, who is a part owner. Associated Press: “During his presidential campaign kickoff speech last week, Trump portrayed immigrants from Mexico as ‘bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.’ … In an interview Thursday, Trump said his criticism was directed against U.S. policymakers, not the Mexican people or government, adding that Univision would be defaulting on its contract if it doesn't air the pageant and he would take legal action.”

3. ROGUE MODEL MAKES POLITICAL PROTEST AT MEN’S SHOW: A model walking in Rick Owens’s men’s show in Paris on Thursday brought unexpected drama when he unfurled a handwritten statement that read “Please Kill Angela Merkel — Not.” Women’s Wear Daily: “Owens was furious at the unauthorized statement. ‘It’s a crazy, rogue, f***ing model that I punched when he came back out,’ the designer told WWD after the show, adding: ‘Please say that I punched him.’” http://bit.ly/1dicmOf
