1. EMMY RATINGS DOWN DESPITE STRONG SHOW: The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast saw its ratings drop 24 percent despite a history-making year that had more participation in voting on the awards. Industry insiders chalk part of the ratings drop to the lack of promotion from Fox, which doesn’t have a morning show or late-night show to boost viewer interest. Los Angeles Times: “Of course, as television continues to splinter among multiple broadcast and streaming platforms, there could be another factor at work: Most of America simply hasn't seen the shows the Emmys are celebrating. … ‘You have to wonder at what point the television landscape will become so fragmented that a decent rating [for the Emmy telecast] is no longer possible,’” says one Emmy-winning producer. http://lat.ms/1OrM7W5
2. VOLVO CHOOSES DIFFERENT TYPE OF INFLUENCER FOR BIG EVENT: Having the most social media followers won’t get an auto enthusiast invited to Volvo’s 60th anniversary next month. It’s quality, not quantity, that the brand is considering when inviting influencers to participate in a Southern California road trip that will include new and vintage Volvo models. Advertising Age: “Rather than seek the heavyweights among social influencers, Volvo is working with its agency Digital Brand Architects to evaluate social data to pluck less likely candidates from Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook and other social channels. … The system has gauged the volume and frequency of social posts from auto and Volvo fans, looking at metrics like keyword density and whether a user's posts are shared among an influential network. People are ranked based on their social influence in conjunction with particular brands. It also attempts to determine whether potential influencers have real-life relationships with people in their networks, as indicated by membership in a closed Facebook group, for example.” http://bit.ly/1MGt3D9
3. WHEN YOUR MEETING DOUBLES AS A WORKOUT: Merging wellness with work, some people are arranging meetings at the gym or during bike rides, a trend dubbed “sweatworking.” Devotees get the benefits of teambuilding and a change of venue from a typical conference room, although it’s not ideal for every encounter. Refinery29: “In this age of alternative workspaces, why not have an alternative for meetings, too? Enter ‘sweatworking’ — the art of taking your meetings over a workout. Alexa von Tobel, founder of LearnVest, swears by it and argues that working out is the one thing she keeps consistent in her busy schedule. ‘Having a meeting while getting in a workout is the easiest way for me to stay productive,’ she said via email. ‘It ensures I'm taking care of myself even when my calendar becomes overwhelming.’” http://r29.co/1LIsses
