Frida Mexican Cuisine opened earlier this month at Glendaleβs Americana at Brand complex. Artist CΓ‘ndida PeΓ±a worked with architect JosΓ© Antonio GonzΓ‘les to create the Mexican eateryβs look, which mixes modern and traditional decor.
The space features marble columns, and a hand-painted, 16- by 48-foot mural by PeΓ±a. A 1,500-square-foot bar constructed from iridescent, blown-glass bricks provides seating for 60. The main dining room has a total capacity of 130, and an outdoor patio holds 80 for seated events.Executive chef Vicente Del Rioβs menu incorporates Mayan recipes with contemporary cuisine, and its offerings include mole poblano (chicken simmered in a chile-chocolate sauce) and pescado a la talla (grilled tilapia marinated in a three-chile sauce).
