Frida Mexican Cuisine opened earlier this month at Glendale’s Americana at Brand complex. Artist Cándida Peña worked with architect José Antonio Gonzáles to create the Mexican eatery’s look, which mixes modern and traditional decor.
The space features marble columns, and a hand-painted, 16- by 48-foot mural by Peña. A 1,500-square-foot bar constructed from iridescent, blown-glass bricks provides seating for 60. The main dining room has a total capacity of 130, and an outdoor patio holds 80 for seated events.Executive chef Vicente Del Rio’s menu incorporates Mayan recipes with contemporary cuisine, and its offerings include mole poblano (chicken simmered in a chile-chocolate sauce) and pescado a la talla (grilled tilapia marinated in a three-chile sauce).
