The
former Wyndham City Center got a $25 million makeover from Marriott
International, which transformed it into the Renaissance M Street Hotel. The
renovations that began last June were finished May 15, though the hotel reopened
for business in February. The 352 guest rooms are decidedly high-tech, with new
32-inch HD plasma televisions; wall-mounted panels
for connecting iPods, digital cameras, and laptops to the television; and wireless Internet.Twelve meeting rooms make up
the hotel’s 10,800 square feet of meeting space, including the
3,400-square-foot City Center Ballroom, which seats 400, and a private
boardroom for 20. The new M Brasserie, helmed by executive chef Darren Anklam,
features American cuisine and two private dining rooms for as many as 45. A
coffeehouse, Caffé, is also on-site, offering indoor and outdoor seating for
breakfast and lunch. A rooftop pool and two additional floors of guest suites
are scheduled to open in 2008.
