In keeping with the hotel-within-a-hotel trend, in June Boston's new Fairmont Battery Wharf added a mini property with appeal to business travelers and small groups. Fairmont Gold features 40 residential-style guest rooms and suites contained in a separate building from the rest of the property, complete with a dedicated check-in area and staff that can assist with business tasks such as copying and faxing.
Eight suites offer space to hold small meetings, including round tables that seat four to six. (The hotel can also bring in slightly larger tables for meetings.) Additionally, guests have exclusive access to the Gold Lounge on the ground floor of the building, a living room-like space with low-slung furniture, a flat-screen TV and a fireplace, as well as a kitchen nook where complimentary breakfast is served in the morning, followed by hors d'oeuvres and an honor bar in the evening. Throughout the day, guests can huddle in the lounge for an informal meeting among a few people, or if groups want to buy out the entire Gold property, the space can host more formal events.
The lounge includes a small business center and free Wi-Fi and connects to a seasonal outdoor patio. For larger events, guests at Fairmont Gold can also book any of the meeting rooms in the adjacent main hotel, including the 250-person Constitution Ballroom and chef Guy Martin's Sensing restaurant.
