1. Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival Screenings
The Scoop: "Cannes is truly an international event. The entire [advertising] industry is captured in Cannes for one week," says Jeremy Miller, director of worldwide public relations for TBWA/Chiat/Day. The best print, television, online, and direct marketing advertising and marketing campaigns are awarded in Cannes, France, in June; the New York gala is a cocktail party and screening of the winning entries.
Behind the Scenes: Cannes marketing manager Susan Lilley will be planning the gala again this year. Last year's event was held at the Copacabana. The date for the 2005 event has not been set. Sept.

2. Advertising Week in New York City
The Scoop: A brand new event in 2004, the American Association of Advertising Agencies’ (AAAA) Advertising Week is a weeklong series of events. Last year’s week kicked off with a parade of commercial icons—such as Mr. Peanut, the Energizer Bunny, Ronald McDonald, Mr. Clean, the Crash Test Dummies, and Chiquita Banana—that began in Times Square and concluded on Madison Avenue and 50th Street, where the Advertising Walk of Fame ceremony was held. Nearly 200 events held throughout the week attracted more than 40,000 attendees. “They certainly got good panels, and plenty of the big clients turned out,” says Jonah Bloom, executive editor at Ad Age.“It’s probably going to become the biggest annual everyone-comes-to-New-York-for-it type of thing.”
Behind the Scenes: Advertising Week in NYC, a subgroup of the AAAA, runs the event. Ad Week NYC executive director Matt Scheckner and director of special projects Jillian Mellone plan the week of events. Sept. 26-30

3. New York American Marketing Association's Effie Awards*

4. One Club's One Show
The Scoop
: The culmination of the One Show Festival, a weeklong series of exhibits, a film festival, presentations, and awards, the One Show honors the best creative work in advertising. The One Show Interactive awards are held on a separate night to honor creative work in online advertising, digital media, and other high-tech advertising mediums.
Behind the Scenes: Last year, One Club executive director Mary Warlick planned the big awards event at the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden. A few nights prior, interactive director Kevin Swanepoel planned the interactive awards event at the Dia Annex. Joseph Cady Events produced both. For 2005, the interactive awards and the big One Show awards program will be held on the same evening at Jazz at Lincoln Center. May 11

5. Direct Marketing Days
The Scoop: The Washington, D.C.-based Direct Marketing Association’s Direct Marketing Days is a three day series of more than 100 training sessions and more than 400 exhibits that focus on making direct marketing smarter, more targeted, and more effective. Last year’s keynote speaker was American Express chief marketing officer John Hayes, and session topics included online and email marketing, loyalty marketing, and appealing to multicultural markets.
