Chinatown dim sum restaurant Ping Pong Dim Sum expanded its operations to Dupont Circle in August with the opening of its second Washington-area location. The 9,000-square-foot restaurant has six dining areas, including one private and one semi-private, bringing the chain’s total event spaces to 11.
The corner outpost is just one block off Dupont Circle and can seat 292 in total. The outdoor wraparound patio has seating for 58 people. Just inside the entrance, the bar and lounge area is separated from the two dining rooms by wooden Asian-style room separators and can seat 52 at a selection of high-top community tables and bar stools. For receptions, the space can accommodate about 150.
Located behind the partitions, the West dining room can seat 42 and the East dining room can accommodate 54. The Dim Sum Bar has an additional eight seat nearby. Receptions for as many as 250 can be hosted within this bar and East dining room.
The private dining room at the back of the restaurant can host 54 people for dinner, or as many as 100 for receptions. Larger parties of 150 can use the semi-private bar and lounge, which can be sectioned off from the dining rooms. Buyouts are available for groups as large as 600 inside, with additional standing room for 200 on the patio.
The venue’s menu remains true to its roots with a variety of more than 40 dim sum boxes made for sharing. To accommodate the new neighborhood, the restaurant remains open until midnight on Friday and Saturday evenings.
