BOSTON: The 35th Boston Film Festival kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday at Seaport Icon.

CALGARY: Owner and managing partner of OneWest Events, Dustin Westling, has invested in Leblond Studio, an event photography agency owned by president and founder Stephanie Leblond, to serve the western Canadian event industry.

LONDON: The Biltmore Mayfair, the first LXR Hotels & Resorts property in Europe, is now open. The 307-room hotel has restaurants helmed by restaurateur Jason Atherton, and numerous event spaces including a ballroom that holds as many as 700 people for receptions. 

LAS VEGAS: HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas will showcase its interactive HyperX Esports Truck with a pop-up esports and music event by global digital media company LiveXLive at the Luxor Hotel & Casino parking lot on September 21. The event will feature Mario Kart 8 Deluxe play and live musical performances on the stage of the HyperX Esports Truck. 

LOS ANGELES: SAG-Aftra Foundation’s fourth annual Patron of the Artists Awards will take place November 7 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. The event will honor Ava DuVernay and Mark Ruffalo.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: The Fontainebleau Gala for Unicef and Art Bodega Magazine will take place November 8. 

Party with a Purpose by Taste of the NFL will be held on February 1, 2020 in Fort Lauderdale at the Broward County Convention Center. The fund-raising event brings together chefs from around the country and N.F.L. players, coaches, legends, and more to support the fight against hunger.

Crew Fort Lauderdale/Boca Raton will host its 25th anniversary Masquerade Gala on October 18 at the Grateful Palate in Fort Lauderdale.

NASHVILLE: Hutton Hotel has appointed Dale McCarty general manager. 

NEW YORK: The Dodo has expanded its annual dog-focused “Best Dog Day Ever” pop-up into a monthlong experience This year’s event, which will have a Halloween theme, running October 4-27 at 25 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg. Activations will include a dog-size corn maze, a Dyson-sponsored grooming station, and a Target-sponsored photo booth for costumed dogs. 

Pencils of Promise, a nonprofit organization that increases educational opportunities in the developing world, will hold the Pencils of Promise Gala: An Evolution Within on November 4 at Cipriani Wall Street. Kelsey Montague and Evan Mock are the co-creative directors of this year’s gala, which will honor Lil Jon, Karmagawa, and Trevor Noah. 

The 74th annual Tony Awards will take place June 7, 2020, at Radio City Music Hall. 

Variety: “In a surprise move, New York Film Festival’s director and selection committee chair of seven years Kent Jones will step down following this year’s 57th edition, which runs September 27-October 13.”
