Today in Events: Golden Globes Taps Ricky Gervais to Host in 2020, Which N.F.L. Team Should Jeff Bezos Buy?, Final List of Performers and Presenters at the 2019 Latin Grammys Revealed

1. GOLDEN GLOBES TAPS RICKY GERVAIS TO HOST IN 2020: Though his hosting chops have sometimes been met with criticism, comedian Ricky Gervais was tapped Tuesday to host the 77th Golden Globe Awards. Set to air on January 5, 2020, in a broadcast from the Beverly Hills Hotel, the ceremony will mark the comedian’s fifth time leading the event. The move comes amid the shift several other award shows have made in recent years to go without a host. Rolling Stone: “Gervais hosted the ceremony from 2010 to 2012 and returned again in 2016. His stints have not been well-received by everyone, especially when compared to other recent hosts like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but his off-color humor and celebrity needling can be expected to generate viral content for the ceremony.”

2. WHICH N.F.L. TEAM SHOULD JEFF BEZOS BUY?: Following word that Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos is considering buying a professional football team, sports gurus are working overtime to match him up with the right team from the National Football League. Those being recommended all have successful histories, including the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, and Dallas Cowboys, as well as two contenders from the big game—the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills. Mashable: “For Bezos, who's currently worth $111 billion, buying an N.F.L. team would be like spending the change he finds between couch cushions. The most expensive team sale in league history (so far) was the 2018 sale of the Carolina Panthers for around $2.3 billion. Plus, buying an N.F.L. team is a smart investment if you can, you know, actually afford it, as team valuations are increasing exponentially.”

3. FINAL LIST OF PERFORMERS AND PRESENTERS AT THE 2019 LATIN GRAMMYS REVEALED: The final group of performers and presenters slated to appear at the 2019 Latin Grammys, which will air live on Thursday, has been revealed by the Latin Recording Academy. Alicia Keys, Miguel, Farruko, Emilio Estefan, and Dayanara Torres are just some of the many acts that will grace the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, via Univision. Billboard: “Coined as ‘the biggest night in Latin Music,’ the awards show will kick off with a never-before-seen tribute honoring the 20th Anniversary of the Latin Grammys. A group of 20 artists, who will perform together for the first time, will interpret multiple iconic songs spanning various genres of Latin music while commemorating the past 20 years of excellence.”
