INDUSTRY NEWS: Longtime UNLV hospitality professor Patti Shock has passed away. An inductee into the Events Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders, Shock spent more than 20 years at the university, and was named the first icon of the National Association for Catering and Events. She reportedly served as a mentor to, or counseled, numerous industry professionals. The school will host a celebration of Shock's life on December 9.

CHICAGO: The Midwest Region of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science celebrated 70 years of making advancements in scientific innovation at its annual gala on November 2 at the Geraghty. Nearly 300 guests attended the event, raising more than $700,000.

LOS ANGELES: The 2020 OC Fair will have an "All for Fun!" theme, the first concept in a three-year series of fair themes that focus on inclusiveness and Southern California's diverse cultures. The event runs July 17 to August 16.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: Feeding South Florida is hosting its fifth annual Happy Harvest Donor Recognition Breakfast at Signature Grand on December 4. Broward County commissioner Dr. Barbara Sharief will deliver the keynote address. 

NEW YORK: Diffa by Design, the annual benefit for Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (and a BizBash Top 100 event), is moving to a new venue and tweaking its concept for its 2020 edition. The event will take place March 26-28 at Center 415, leaving its longtime spot co-located with the AD Design Show at Pier 92. In addition to the dining environments the event is known for, organizers are planning an "immersive design experience and marketplace" with interactive workshops, culinary experiences, a series of inspiring talks, shopping, a gala celebration, and more.

Outreach, a local premier provider of drug and alcohol treatment and training services, will hold its 38th Annual Metropolitan Luncheon on December 5 at Cipriani.

SAN FRANCISCO: SF Sketchfest has announced the lineup for the 19th annual San Francisco Comedy Festival, which will be held January 9-26.
