INDUSTRY NEWS: Convention Sales Professionals International has appointed John Oney as the association board president. For more than 15 years, Oney served the golf industry, holding numerous titles at private, public, and resort facilities. Most recently, he was director of sales at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida.

LOS ANGELES: Andy and Carlo Brandon-Gordon, owners of Nerano, opened their new restaurant, BG, in late January. The retro, speakeasy-style space is a tribute to mid-20th century Italian American restaurants, with red brick walls, walnut flooring, and black linens. BG has 30 seats and can be booked for private events.

MILWAUKEE: The Democratic National Convention Committee has selected Hargrove as the event management firm for the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Hargrove will manage locally-owned JCP Construction as construction general contractor for the event and Populous as the event architect.

NEW ORLEANS: Essence Festival of Culture announced headliners Janet Jackson and Bruno Mars for the event, which takes place July 1-5. Yvonne McNair of Captivate Marketing Group is the producer and talent booker for the main stage. CMG is also responsible for producing the After Dark Series of comedy shows, live podcasts, jam sessions, and after-parties with top DJs.

NEW YORK: City Harvest has announced that Eric and Sandra Ripert, Goya Foods, and the Unanue family will be the honorees April 28 at this year’s City Harvest Presents The 2020 Gala: Red Supper Club. Celebrity event planner Colin Cowie will design the room decor for the fund-raiser, which will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street.

WASHINGTON: Events D.C. has secured the first major sponsor of the Entertainment and Sports Arena at St. Elizabeths in Congress Heights. RCN Business Solutions will be the exclusive internet services provider there, and the agreement also covers new fields at the grounds around RFK Memorial Stadium.
