Industry News: Daytime Emmys Go Virtual, the Toronto Flower Market Opens, #Creators4Comics Raises Funds for Retailers, and More

NATIONAL: Earlier this month, the comics industry raised more than $400,000 for struggling comic book retailers during its #Creators4Comics Twitter auction. The six-day event, which included 635 auctions by comic creators, authors, and celebrities, will donate all proceeds to BINC's Comicbook United fund.

LOS ANGELES: The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will host a virtual ceremony later this year to hand out its Emmys for daytime, sports, news and documentary, and technology and engineering. Each category had previously had its own live gathering, which have been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. 

RuPaul's DragCon, which was originally supposed to take place this weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center, has pivoted to digital. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday on producer World of Wonder's YouTube channel and will feature performances, panels, Q&As, and more.

MIAMI: The Miami Home Design and Remodeling Show has added DIY demos to its "Stay at Home with the Home Show," a weekly social media series running through the month of May. The episodes air live on Mondays on the Home Show's Facebook page. 

NEW YORK: East Village Ukrainian restaurant Veselka is returning for delivery and takeout service starting May 1.

SAN FRANCISCO: In an effort to showcase its event entertainment options, Entire Productions will host a virtual variety show on Sunday night. Sponsored by AllSeated, the event will feature an interview with Beyonce and Stevie Wonder's keyboard player Victoria Theodore, plus performances from cirque acts and more.

TORONTO: Beginning on May 2, the Toronto Flower Market opens for the eighth year as a digital marketplace, with deliveries happening throughout the following week. Vendors will offer various local blooms and other items through the market’s website, while virtual greenhouse tours, floral talks, and kids activities will take place through Instagram.
