CANADA: A Livestreamed Fall Fair, Hotel Opening, Drive-In Movie Event, and More

CALGARY: Dickens Pub has reopened after nearly six months of closures due to COVID-19. Its next live event will be a performance by HammerFall on Sept. 29, and the pub is taking health safety precautions with a capacity limit of 90 attendees instead of its usual 400. Upcoming events include drag shows, trivia nights, DJ sets, and more.

EDMONTON: The 157th Ripley-Huron Fall Fair has gone virtual and will be livestreamed on YouTube from Sept. 25-27. The fair will feature a photography competition, an online auction, and digital family-focused events hosted by The Keepers Wildlife Rescue.

QUEBEC: The Hilton Quebec is slated to reopen in January 2021 following a one-year closure and $70 million renovation. The updated hotel will boast new contemporary public areas, restaurants, event spaces, and reimagined guest rooms.

TORONTO: Estates of Sunnybrook, a banquet hall on 40 acres of land, has closed after operating for over a decade. Although the venue struggled during the pandemic due to weddings flagged as high-risk events, the exact reason for closure is unknown.

WINDSOR, ONT.: The first-ever WIFF Under the Stars ended after a 16-day drive-in movie event at the Riverfront Festival Plaza. More than 4,000 people attended, and the success of the Windsor International Film Festival’s pivot to a drive-in format after cancelling its in-person festival in June reportedly has WIFF officials thinking about a similar event in the future.
