CALGARY: The rooftop of the City Centre Parkade at 340 10 Avenue SW has been transformed into High Park, the city’s newest public park. The space spans 90,000 square feet and features a 200-meter boardwalk, colorful picnic tables, green AstroTurf, and views east and west, including the Calgary Tower. High Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
EDMONTON: The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has approved a proposal from Hockey Canada to allow Rogers Place in Edmonton to host the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship. The games will be played using a bubble format and without spectators.
MONTREAL: The Festival du Nouveau Cinema kicked off its drive-in movie theater series in the parking lot of the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport on Oct. 8. The pop-up event allowed people to view classic movie screenings from their cars. This year marks the 49th edition of the festival, and films will continue to screen through Oct. 31. The selection includes 200 works in total, with more than 50 feature films taking place online.
TORONTO: The Toronto Zoo launched its free Hay-lloween Town exhibit, which runs until Oct. 31. Located at the Savanna Picnic Site, the event will feature fall decor, themed vignettes, and photo ops for attendees. Visitors must prebook time slots in order to attend.
VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Boat Show, originally scheduled for Feb. 3-7, 2021, has been canceled due to COVID-19. Organizers have refocused their efforts on the planning of the 2022 show.
