The event is co-hosted by MediaSmarts, Canada's Centre for Digital and Media Literacy, and the Canadian Teachers' Federation. In addition, resources to identify "fake news," plus a new Teacher's Hub with curated lesson plans, videos, and more, will be available year-round.

CALGARY: YYC’s food and music event, The Blue Jay Sessions, is returning with an event series from Nov. 25-27 at Mikey’s on 12th, raising funds for Community Kitchen Programs of Calgary. The holiday edition of The Blue Jay Sessions will feature 21 Canadian singer-songwriters performing original songs and sharing the stories behind the lyrics. In addition, attendees will experience a fun holiday-themed food menu featuring eats like “turkey dinner” tacos and a Mexican take on pumpkin pie.

MONTREAL: Montreal’s Image+Nation, Canada’s first LGBTQ film festival, is presenting a four-day Halloween horror fest from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1. Tickets are available as an all-access pack or for individual screenings. In addition, the 33rd annual edition of the usual Image+Nation festival is slated to kick off Nov. 19.

TORONTO: Cabana Waterfront Patio opened The Marquee, a new outdoor heated patio, on Oct. 24; it's now open Thursdays to Sundays from 5-11 p.m. It's billed as the city's largest outdoor heated patio, featuring a 5,400-square-foot tented space, a new food menu by Oliver & Bonacini Hospitality, and an interactive art installation by Canadian artist Bruno Billio.

VANCOUVER: The Canadian figure skating championships have been pushed back a month due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rescheduled for Feb. 8-14 at Vancouver's Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. The championships were originally scheduled for Jan. 11-17 at the same venue. The event is set to take place in person, but the number of competitors has been reduced to accommodate safety protocols.
