CANADA: March of Dimes’ Kitchen Party, Cinemania’s Virtual Film Festival, and More

NATIONAL: March of Dimes Canada is hosting a virtual fundraiser Nov. 7 to support Canadians living with disabilities during the second wave of COVID-19. The Conquer the Curve Kitchen Cèilidh invites attendees to make dinner with a step-by-step tutorial from RCR executive chef Brooklyn Hillier. After dinner, there will be a 45-minute virtual concert courtesy of folk musician JP Cormier. Tickets are $100 and include dinner ingredients for two, plus a craft beer selection from Garrison Brewery. A $20 ticket option, which includes a shopping list rather than a delivery, is also available.

Digital Media Wire’s 18th annual Future of Television Conference will take place virtually from Nov. 10-12. The event will focus on the future of post-pandemic TV and sports programming, the evolution of influencer marketing, and more, with speakers from the likes of TikTok, Starz, A&E Networks, and Roku.

MONTREAL: The Cinemania film festival, which celebrates French films with English subtitles, will host its 26th edition virtually from Nov. 4-22. The event will present 94 films from 19 countries, and all screenings are available Canada-wide for the first time due to the online format. Tickets cost $8 per film or $65 for a festival pass.

TORONTO: Although its annual ball is canceled, the Ontario Science Centre's RBC Innovators' eAuction kicked off Oct. 26 and runs until Nov. 9. This year’s event focuses on “whoa moments,” in which visitors, programmers, and guest speakers recall the first time they found themselves in awe with an experience at the center. Prizes include a video meet and greet with storm chaser and Angry Planet host George Kourounis, a private dinner with Toronto-based tech sector leaders, and artwork by 20 artists.

VANCOUVER: The 23rd annual Lights of Hope festival will take place Nov. 19 to Jan. 4 on Burrard Street. It's part of a fundraiser that supports patients in need, including residents and caregivers at St. Paul’s Hospital, Mount Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and Providence Health Care’s long-term care facilities. The display’s “Living Light” shines brightly when donations are made and fades if it goes without support. Viewers are asked to watch the opening ceremonies from home and visit in-person at a later date.
