CALGARY: The Lions Festival of Lights will take place on a smaller scale this year from Nov. 28 to Jan. 8. The annual event usually draws over 60,000 visitors for a 650,000-light display that spreads throughout the Confederation Park golf course. In an effort to prevent large crowds, the lights festival will be limited to 14 Street this year, and the fireworks show and opening-night celebrations have been canceled.
EDMONTON: Snow Valley Ski Club opened last week with strict health and safety precautions due to COVID-19, including reduced ticket availability and contact-tracing technologies. The hill will also be fenced off this year for better control of club access, and capacity has been reduced to 350 total staffers and guests.
TORONTO: Dr. Seuss’s holiday exhibition, dubbed Grinch’s Grotto, is taking place at Mississauga’s Square One Nov. 27 to Jan. 3. The holiday experience will feature a meet-and-greet with the Grinch, including a photo op where attendees can choose from signs bearing playful slogans such as “You’re a mean one, 2020.”
VANCOUVER: The Eastside Culture Crawl is expanding for its 24th edition, which takes place Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 19-22. The visual arts, design, and crafts festival will feature 247 local artists through a mix of in-person, socially distanced studio visits plus virtual studio tours and livestreamed demonstrations.
BIPOC Foods Vancouver is hosting a holiday-themed virtual pop-up Nov. 20-22, where guests can shop for food, art, self-care items, and more made by local businesses run by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color). A portion of the pop-up’s sales will be donated to the Indigenous organization Gidimt’en Yintah Access.
