INTERNATIONAL: The Sundance Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, 2021, will take place primarily virtually, with more than 70 films premiering on a custom online platform. Each film will be screened at a dedicated time followed by a live Q&A; there will also be a small amount of in-person screenings at various venues across the United States. Tickets go on sale Jan. 7.
NATIONAL: Red Bull AdrenaLAN, the brand’s massive gaming competition, takes place online from Dec. 19-29. Hosted on Twitch rather than in person this year, the event will feature free-to-enter tournaments between Canadian gamers, as well as indie showcases, musical performances, and more.
CALGARY: Calgary has been named as the "hub city" for the 2021 World Men's Curling Championship. The competition was originally scheduled to be held in Ottawa, but has been moved to the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park from April 3-11, 2021. The Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Tim Hortons Brier, and the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships are also set to be staged at the venue.
MONTREAL: Le Village illuminé Desjardins in Drummondville, a Christmas village with 25,000 lights, opened Dec. 4 and will run on the weekends until Jan. 2. The pop-up fills the streets with fireplaces, food and beverage options, markets, sleigh rides, and more. All activities are being held outside in order to follow health regulations.
TORONTO: The 50th edition of the Juno Awards has been moved. The televised show will now happen on May 16, 2021, about a month and a half after its originally planned date in March. Nominees for the Juno Awards will be announced early in 2021.
